Silent Witness - Helmand Province Battle Sequence

22/06/2010

I got a call from the BBC to go over to a Bedfordshire chalk quary and storyboard a very complicated battle sequence with the Director - Keith Boak. - ready for an intensive Monday shoot. Below are some photos taken by Stephan Pehrsson, the DOP, at the rehersal at the weekend.

Really interesting to see the actors being put through their paces but also seeing the military advisors lay down as much reality in the sequence as possible. The ethos of 'team' and one man looking out for the other in a very harsh and intense environment.

I had 24 hours after the rehersal, (plus an England vs. USA World Cup game),  to get the boards drafted and emailed over. A good example how simple 'boards help out in planning a very tight shoot - where canera set ups, SFX and logistics all have to be considered.

Here are a few samples from the working storyboards.
